i used to listen to this song while driving to the US about 7 years ago and sing the chorus, like we all did
but last night, and today... I have attained the meaning of the song and, why it was such a big hit
because it's a spiritual song, guised perfectly as pop music

for years i thought the song was about a guy in a bar
who see's something(a hot bartender in my imagination)
and he know's he wants some one to take him home, and he is aware of his desire etc
and so he sings... I am available for love lol
but, that was just my interperetation, lol
and very indicative of my mind back then
i am still and always available for love, however

the song is not about that
the song is about speaking to our higherself and attaining our true self.
the lyric, "Take me home." speaks directly to the director, pilot, self-observer

you can go through the lyrics yourself and see
there is no mention of a hot bartender
lol
